1.         Help promote Print to Schools

Printing Industries is working with the Victorian Office of Manufacturing on a programme to promote career opportunities within Manufacturing in Victoria.  The programme aims to open up the opportunities that are available within the manufacturing sector.

 

We need young(ish) people who have been in our industry for a few years who could relate well to Year 10 students.  They will be talking about their training and their work to date.  The programme is administered by The Office of Manufacturing and the experience will provide training in itself for your staff member.

2.         Profit squeeze good for inflation

The latest inflation data for the December 2005 quarter released last week by the Australian Bureau of Statistics shows that inflation continues to remain under control thanks to continuing price restraint by Australian industry. 

 

Inflation increased by only 0.5 per cent during the quarter and by 2.8 per cent in the 12 months to December 2005.

3.         Potential Award winners…….  Time Extension !

Printing companies have a two-week extension of time to get their entries delivered in time for National Print Award judging. National Print Awards chairman Scott Telfer says the extension will give printers an opportunity to submit their selection after returning from annual holidays and the Australia Day week.  Entries must be submitted to National Print Awards, 18-20 Queens Avenue Hawthorn, no later than February 14, 2006

 

4.         WorkChoices Legislation

As we mentioned last week, we will be holding briefing sessions regarding the WorkChoices Legislation in February.  Details are:

5.         Get Connected Reconnects in June
The Get Connected conference will re-connect with the industry on 28-30 June 2006 in Sydney.   Printing Industries National Director, Marketing and Media Services, Joe Kowalewski, said visa and related issues which caused the rescheduling from November last year had been resolved and would seen a strong international contingent in June.   "The format will stay much the same as before including participation by the Lithographic Institute of Australia (LIA)," he said.  

Get connected will feature the Forum of AsianPacific Graphic Arts Technology - an international network of printing industries from Australia, China, Japan, Korea, Malaysia, Philippines, Singapore, Sri Lanka and Thailand.   "This year more than at any time in the past globalisation of our industry is high on everyone's agenda. What does it mean? What are the challenges and threats and where do the opportunities lie?

6.         Pre-press Apprenticeship Wanted – Western Suburbs

A student from Werribee is interested to find an apprenticeship in graphic pre-press in either the Western suburbs or Central Melbourne.  She is more interested in design than plate making.  She has done six months of a graphic design Degree at Ballarat Uni, a year at Vic Uni Advanced diploma of multimedia and has enrolled this year in graphic design at Victoria University.  However, she would prefer to get an apprenticeship this year.  If you are interested to review her resume and speak with her, please email Michelle Eeles.
