Issue 16 – 2006
1. Environmental Issue
Environmental issues are getting more and more airplay and are a key concern to the Print industry. From governments to corporate customers to schools we are being asked to prove our environmental credentials. And with a growing choice of options - ISO14001, FSC, Ecobuy, AELA, etc etc, deciding what to do, and why is difficult.
But we all know doing nothing is not an option.
Following discussions with a number of members recently, we are going to start an Environmental “email” group. The focus would be an email once every couple of weeks on a range of enviro topics relevant to Print. It would also provide an opportunity to ask questions, and access data Printing Industries has available directly or can access through our Government & Industry contacts. As with newsPrint, your name will remain confidential to PIAA only.
If you would like to register, please email Tony Duncan.
2. RMIT/ICGT 2006 Innovation Initiative
Further to the successful Printing Industries supported 2005 Innovation Initiative, business owners and managers are now invited to express their interest in being involved in the 2006 program.
The Initiative is focusing on improving leadership effectiveness in printing enterprises through mentoring, project management and skills development. Only a small number of places are available, if you are interested in making this type of investment in your business’s future, please contact Dean Mason, Project Manager, on 03 9398 6262, 0402 846 696, or by email on dean.mason@enakt.com.
3. Print Training Awards Gala Night
The annual RMIT / ICGT Printing Industry training awards were held in Melbourne last night, sponsored by Printing Industries and a number of industry suppliers and supporters. Congratulations go to all award winners, however special mention must be made of the two major winners:
The industry is in good hands while we continue to attract and keep training talented young people like these.
4. Inflation Fears Rekindled
Fears of interest rate rises have been rekindled following the release of the March 2006 quarter inflation data by the Australian Bureau of Statistics (ABS) showing headline inflation has now reached the upper limit of the Reserve Bank's target range of 2-3 per cent. Headline inflation was reported to have increased by 0.9 per cent during the March 2006 quarter and by 3.0 per cent during the year to March 2006. For further information go to Printnet.

7. What’s On
To find out What’s on in the world of print go to What’s On
And Finally
President Clinton
died and knocked at the Pearly Gates. "Who goes there?" inquired St. Peter.
"It's me, Bill Clinton".
"What bad things did you do on earth?"
Clinton thought a bit and
answered, "Well, I smoked marijuana, but you shouldn't hold that against me
because I didn't inhale. And I lied, but I didn't commit perjury."
After
several moments of deliberation St. Peter replied, "OK, here's the deal. We'll
send you someplace where it is very hot, but we won't call it 'Hell.' You'll be
there for an indefinite period of time, but we won't call it 'eternity.' And
don't 'abandon all hope' upon entering, just don't hold your breath waiting for
it to freeze over."
