3. Tax Time - Free Tax Help now available
Volunteers trained by the Tax Office are now available in your area to help low income earners (individuals) prepare their tax returns free of charge. Go to http://ato.gov.au/distributor.asp?doc=/content/76726.htm . You may have staff that could use this service.
4. Using self help service to pay tax debt by instalments
If you have a tax debt of less than $25,000 it is possible for you to pay your outstanding debt by entering into a payment arrangement with the ATO and paying off your debt by instalments.
A payment arrangement can be organised either by your tax advisor or by you, by calling the ATO’s automated self-help numbers and following the prompts – there is no need to talk to a tax officer.
Provided the ATO accepts the proposed arrangement, personalised payment slips will be issued within seven working days to the postal address we currently have for you on ATO’s records.
