4.       National Packaging Covenant

All Covenant signatories are required to prepare and submit an action plan for 3 – 5 years and then report against it each year by 31st October. Given that the Year 1 reporting date is approaching, the National Packaging Covenant Council will be holding a series of free workshops to review the action plan process and assist in the development of annual reports.   The Melbourne workshop will be held on Monday 4 September between 9.30am - 12 noon & 1.30pm - 4pm.  To register contact Adele Weston on (03) 9861 2322 or npc@packagingcovenant.org.au.  A workshop will also be held in Tasmania – contact Adele for details.

5.       OECD Survey of the Australian Economy

The OECD has released its latest survey of the Australian economy, finding that our economy is performing very well; stating that recent macroeconomic performance continues to be impressive and our living standards have steadily improved since the beginning of the 1990s and now surpass all G7 countries except the United States.    The OECD report gives considerable attention to industrial relations law and policy in Australia. It is the first OECD report to examine WorkChoices. The OECD examined WorkChoices against international norms for economic development and job creation. It concluded that ‘the industrial relations reforms are a step in the right direction with benefits likely to surface gradually over the coming years’, and that if anything WorkChoices is too cautious. The OECD report provides strong rebuttal to the union campaign against WorkChoices.

And Finally

Keep in mind that you are always saying "no" to something. If it isn't to the apparent, urgent things in your life, it is probably to the most fundamental, highly important things. Even when the urgent is good, the good can keep you from your best, keep you from your unique contribution, if you let it.
