2. Environmental Issue
We’ve had a good response to this offer last week, but for those of you who missed / deleted / forgot to follow-up……
Environmental issues are getting more and more airplay and are a key concern to the Print industry. From governments to corporate customers to schools we are being asked to prove our environmental credentials. And with a growing choice of options - ISO14001, FSC, Ecobuy, AELA, etc etc, deciding what to do, and why is difficult.
But we all know doing nothing is not an option.
Following discussions with a number of members recently, we are going to start an Environmental “email” group. The focus would be an email once every couple of weeks on a range of enviro topics relevant to Print. It would also provide an opportunity to ask questions, and access data Printing Industries has available directly or can access through our Government & Industry contacts. As with newsPrint, your name will remain confidential to PIAA only.
If you would like to register, please email Tony Duncan.
3. 2006 Innovation Initiative
Further to the successful Printing Industries supported 2005 Innovation Initiative, business owners and managers are now invited to express their interest in being involved in the 2006 program.
The focus is to provide support to SME business owners who are considering or involved with new business initiatives. It will help put a framework around your strategy, and provide some discipline in execution. For further info please contact Dean Mason, Project Manager, on 03 9398 6262, 0402 846 696, or by email on dean.mason@enakt.com.
4. National Print Awards
The Awards dinner will be held next Friday evening in Sydney. If you still haven’t organized your tickets, there are still tickets available. Please download a registration form from www.nationalprintawards.com.au and fax it in on Monday at the latest.
5. Some Post – Ipex advice courtesy of Dr Joe Webb
The successful printer is sceptical about technologies and what vendors tell them. Printers are often more stable and successful than the companies selling to them. Look at the turnover in vendor personnel and the horrid stock performance of some of the vendor companies. Privately held successful printers definitely have a leg up on things. The vendors would be better off listening to printers and not the other way around. I have always heard the complaints from printers that there was no consistency in field sales personnel, and worst of all that the sales people really didn’t understand the print business. Instead they always quoted specs and financing gibberish, but nothing about building business as a partner.
