1. OH&S 5 Day course
Printing Industries will be running another 5 Day WorkCover Approved OH&S Course commencing on 21 August in our lovely new training facilities in Mulgrave. As you would be aware, the new Victorian OH&S Act reinforces the duties on employers to provide and maintain healthy and safe working environments - as far as is reasonably practicable. David McIvor from Occupational Safety and Health Associates will be presenting this course. To book, please contact Michelle Eeles.
2. Employee Share Plans
The Department of Employment and Workplace Relations is holding free breakfast briefings about Employee Share Plans. If you are looking to increase productivity, staff motivation and retention rates then this briefing is for you. To register go Workplace.
The CPI rose by 1.6 percent in the June quarter with the large quarterly increase bringing the annual rate of growth from 3.0 for the year to March to 4.0 for the year to June. The main components of the large increase were the prices of bananas and fuel. Removing the effects of these two items inflation is much more moderate. The annual increase in the CPI excluding ‘volatile items’ rose by 2.4 percent over the year. This measure is more appropriate for gauging underlying inflation since there is a methodological difficulty with the CPI that does not allow for changes in consumption patterns during the year. This has the effect of overstating the impact of some price increases. This is particularly relevant for the price of bananas since the price has risen dramatically but countering the effect on consumers’ budgets is the fact that consumption of bananas has fallen considerably.
4. Australia's Competitive Strengths
Australia has been ranked the world's most politically stable country in the influential IMD World Competitiveness Yearbook (WCY) 2006. The report notes understanding of economic challenges by political parties in Australia is among the best in the world, ranking fourth overall. Similarly, the adaptability of Australian Government policy to changes in the economy is ranked fifth best in the world. Australia's approach to exchange rate policy, in supporting the competitiveness of enterprises, was ranked in the top five in the world and is second in the Asia Pacific region.

And Finally
A wife was making a breakfast of fried eggs for her husband.
Suddenly, her husband burst into the kitchen. “Careful," he said, "CAREFUL! Put in some more
butter! Oh my GOD! You're cooking too many at once. TOO MANY! Turn them! TURN THEM NOW! We need
more butter. Oh my GOD! WHERE are we going to get MORE BUTTER? They're going to STICK! Careful ...
CAREFUL! I said be CAREFUL! You NEVER listen to me when you're cooking! Never! Turn them! Hurry up!
Are you CRAZY? Have you LOST your mind? Don't forget to salt them. You know you always forget to salt
them. Use the salt. USE THE SALT! THE SALT!"
The wife stared at him. "What in the world is wrong with you? You think I don't know how to fry a couple of
eggs?"
The husband calmly replied, "I wanted to show you what it feels like when I'm driving."
