1.         OH&S Senior Briefing – Free for Members

We will be holding a 1½ briefing for senior managers with our new OH&S consultant, David McIvor from Occupational Safety and Health on Wednesday 29 March between 8 and 9.30 am here at Printing Industries.  David will be speaking about the changes in the OH&S laws and your responsibilities under the Act.   The new Victorian OHS Act 2004 places a series of important duties on all employers in Victoria.  In addition to general duties of care (for employees, contractors, Visitors etc), there are new requirements to consult with employees and their health and safety representatives on all matters relating to OHS.  The briefing will cover:

2.         Printing Industry Continues to Grow

The printing industry has continued to grow for the third consecutive quarter according to official data released on 1 March by the Australian Bureau of Statistics (ABS).  In seasonally adjusted terms the printing industry grew by 1.2 per cent during the December 2005 quarter and by 0.9 per cent during the year to December.  In trend terms it grew by 1.3 per cent during the quarter and by 2.3 per cent compared to 12 months ago.   To read more go to Printnet.

 

 

3.         NAB Campaign Starts to Bite

One of our larger members in WA has advised that they have decided to support another bank for their finance following NAB’s decision to source a % of its print from overseas.   Any further comments about this issue should be directed to Tony Duncan.

 

 

4.         Worksafe Awards

The WorkSafe Victoria Awards are one of Australia's premier workplace health and safety recognition schemes.  Now in their 18th year, the Awards aim to acknowledge individuals and organisations that contribute to the improvement of workplace health and safety.  The Awards are designed to give innovative and dedicated individuals and organisations the recognition they deserve.  In the past this has inspired other Victorian workplaces to develop and implement their own initiatives.

5.         Work Experience

A parent of a Year 10 student from Broadmeadows has called seeking work experience for her son in a Screen Printing business.   The parent is able to drive the student to and from work each day.  If you are interested in offering a placement, please contact Michelle Eeles.  If you would like to offer students work experience, please contact Michelle to assist.
